The gnemon tree, Gnetum gnemon, is a species of gymnosperm in the genus Gnetum native to a broad swath of tropical Asia and the western Pacific, from northeastern India through the Malay Peninsula and Archipelago to the Philippines. Unlike most gymnosperms it produces broad, flat leaves resembling those of a flowering tree, and its seeds and young leaves are widely eaten in Indonesian cuisine, most famously ground and fried into the cracker known as emping.
