Dwarf Horsetail (Equisetum scirpoides) is the smallest living species in the genus Equisetum, with a circumpolar distribution. It grows in compact, dense clumps reaching a maximum height of about 30 centimeters, with thin, green, unbranched stems about 1 millimeter thick bearing six ribs, and tiny leaves reduced to a black sheath around each stem. It reproduces mainly by vegetative division and is a popular decorative plant in garden ponds and ornamental gardens worldwide. It was first described by the French botanist Andre Michaux.
