Mexican Giant Horsetail (Equisetum myriochaetum) is native to Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru, and is the largest living horsetail species, commonly reaching 4.6 meters tall with a record specimen of 7.3 meters. Each node bears a whorl of up to 32 branchlets, and the semi-aquatic plant is often found on riverbanks. In Mexico it is harvested and sold as a traditional treatment for kidney disease and type 2 diabetes, and as a diuretic.
