Rooibos is a broom-like shrub of the pea family, Aspalathus linearis, native to a small area of South Africa's Fynbos biome in the Cederberg region. It has a linear growth habit with needle-like leaves and produces raceme flower clusters and small legume pods. Its leaves are dried and used to brew a reddish herbal infusion that has been consumed in Southern Africa for generations and is naturally free of caffeine with low tannin levels compared to black or green tea.
