Puerto Rican Whipscorpion

The Puerto Rican whipscorpion, Stenochrus portoricensis, is a species of short-tailed whipscorpion in the family Hubbardiidae, order Schizomida, found mainly across North and Central America. Its parthenogenetic mode of reproduction, in which females can produce offspring without mating, has allowed it to establish populations well beyond its original range, in other temperate parts of the world. It lives in caves, forests, fallen logs and abandoned termite nests, a range of moist, sheltered microhabitats typical of the order.
