Bird Families

The taxonomic families of the class Aves, the feathered, egg-laying vertebrates. Covers every family-rank taxon entity in this atlas identified by its own sourced description as a bird family under the standard avian classification (the IOC World Bird List and Clements checklist, both followed by ITIS and the Catalogue of Life), spanning the large passerine families such as Corvidae, Fringillidae and Tyrannidae and the non-passerine families such as Accipitridae, Anatidae, Psittacidae and Strigidae. Excludes every reptile or fish family that happens to share a similarly formed -idae name, and every family whose members are not birds even where a common name might suggest otherwise.
