Bird Orders

The taxonomic orders of the class Aves, the feathered, egg-laying vertebrates. Covers every order-rank taxon entity in this atlas identified as a bird order under the standard avian classification (the IOC World Bird List and Clements checklist, both followed by ITIS and the Catalogue of Life), the great majority of which carry the -iformes ending shared with several fish orders, so placement here is checked against each entity's own sourced description rather than the ending alone. Includes both true orders such as Passeriformes and Accipitriformes and the finer bird subdivisions this atlas also carries at order rank, the Old World flycatcher lineage Muscicapida and the songbird parvorder Passerida, both within Passeriformes. Excludes every fish order ending in -iformes, such as Perciformes or Siluriformes, which belong in Fish Orders instead.
