Brown skua

The brown skua, also known as the Antarctic skua, subantarctic skua or southern skua, is a large seabird that breeds in the subantarctic and Antarctic zones and ranges farther north outside the breeding season. Its taxonomy is complex and disputed, with some authorities splitting it into two or three species, the Falkland skua, Tristan skua and subantarctic skua. It also hybridizes with both the south polar skua and the Chilean skua, and the whole group has at times been treated as a subspecies of the great skua, which otherwise occurs only in the Northern Hemisphere.
