The Eurasian oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus), also called the European or common pied oystercatcher, is a wader in the family Haematopodidae with striking black and white plumage, a long straight orange-red bill, red eyes and short dull pink legs, with the bill longer in females than in males. It is the most widespread of the oystercatchers, with four subspecies breeding across western Europe, central Eurosiberia, Kamchatka, China and the western coast of Korea, a range no other oystercatcher shares.
