Heaths, Camellias And Primroses (Ericales)

This group gathers Flowering Plants subcategory members belonging to the order Ericales, a large and chemically varied asterid order whose members range from acid-loving dwarf shrubs of cold heathland to tropical rainforest canopy trees. It spans the heath family Ericaceae (heather, the blueberries and lingonberries, and the rhododendrons), the tea family Theaceae (the tea and camellia plant), the primrose family Primulaceae (including the cyclamens), the Brazil nut family Lecythidaceae, the kiwifruit family Actinidiaceae, the sapodilla family Sapotaceae, and the desert-adapted ocotillo and boojum-tree family Fouquieriaceae. It also gathers the American pitcher plants of the family Sarraceniaceae, whose leaf-derived pitfall traps evolved independently of the unrelated Old World pitcher plants of the family Nepenthaceae, which this subcategory instead places in the Caryophyllales-order Carnations And Cacti group above; the two carnivorous strategies look alike but arose on separate branches of the flowering-plant family tree.
