Other Arachnids

This group gathers Arachnids subcategory members that are genuine arachnids but that this atlas's own sourced descriptions do not identify with one of the six more specific arachnid orders gathered separately above. Its members belong to Ricinulei, the hooded tickspiders, a small, little-known arachnid order found in humid leaf litter and caves across tropical Africa and the Americas, unusual among arachnids for a hinged, hood-like flap that covers the mouthparts and can be raised or lowered, and for males that transfer sperm to females using a modified front leg rather than the specialized pedipalps most other arachnid orders use for the same purpose. Every member gathered here is a genuine arachnid by the broad definition of the class Arachnida; the split above exists only to keep six especially large or well-known orders browsable on their own rather than to draw a biological line excluding anything placed here.
