Black redstart

The black redstart is a small passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae, widespread as a breeder in rocky habitats across Eurasia and North Africa, from the British Isles south to Morocco and east to central China. It is resident in the milder parts of its range, while northern and eastern birds migrate. It measures 13 to 14.5 centimeters long and weighs 12 to 20 grams; males are dark grey to black above with a black breast and an orange-red lower rump and tail, while females are grey to grey-brown overall, also with an orange-red lower rump and tail. Its grey axillaries and underwing coverts help distinguish it from the closely related common redstart. The IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
