European pied flycatcher

The European pied flycatcher is a small passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family. It is one of four Western Palearctic black and white flycatcher species and hybridizes to a limited extent with the collared flycatcher. It breeds across most of Europe and the Western Palearctic, migrates to winter mainly in tropical Africa, and typically nests in holes in oak trees. The species practices polygyny, usually with two mates: a male travels considerable distances to acquire a second female, then returns to the first female to help raise that brood.
