The fieldfare is a member of the thrush family Turdidae that breeds in woodland and scrub across northern Europe and the Palearctic. It is strongly migratory, with many northern birds moving south for winter, and while a very rare breeder in the British Isles it winters there in large numbers along with southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. It is omnivorous, eating molluscs, insects and earthworms in summer and berries, grain and seeds in winter.
