Taiwan blue magpie

The Taiwan blue magpie is a bird species in the crow family, endemic to the island of Taiwan. It measures 63 to 68 centimeters long, including a tail of 34 to 42 centimeters, and weighs about 254 to 260 grams. Its head, neck and breast are black, with yellow eyes and a red bill and feet, while the rest of its plumage is mostly blue with white tipped wing and tail feathers. It inhabits broadleaf forests at elevations of 300 to 1,200 meters and is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN with a stable population. Though never formally adopted, it won a 2007 public vote among more than a million international participants to be considered Taiwan's national bird.
