Ciliates and Amoebae

Free living protists that move and feed using cilia or pseudopodia rather than flagella, covering the ciliates proper, the amoebae and slime molds of the Amoebozoa, and the shelled, amoeboid Rhizaria such as foraminifera and radiolarians. Includes species that are opportunistic or occasional pathogens as a secondary trait of an otherwise free living life, identified by their own sourced description rather than by name. Excludes protists whose defining trait is an obligate parasitic life cycle, which belong in Parasitic Protozoa even where the organism is itself an amoeba or moves by cilia.
