The spotted jelly, also known as the lagoon jelly, golden medusa, or Papuan jellyfish, is a species of jellyfish native to the Indo-Pacific oceans. Like corals and sea anemones, it belongs to the phylum Cnidaria and bears stinging cells called cnidocytes. Mastigias papua lives in symbiosis with zooxanthellae, photosynthetic algae housed within its own tissues.
