Bunya Pine

Bunya pine, Araucaria bidwillii, is a conifer of the family Araucariaceae native to a small area of southeastern Queensland, Australia, producing some of the largest cones of any conifer, which can weigh several kilograms and contain large edible seeds known as bunya nuts. Those nuts were a significant food source for Aboriginal peoples of the region, whose periodic bunya gatherings brought together groups from a wide area to harvest and share the bumper crops produced roughly every three years.
