Deodar cedar, Cedrus deodara, is a conifer of the family Pinaceae native to the western Himalayas across Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal, distinguished from other true cedars by its drooping branch tips and leading shoot. It is the national tree of Pakistan and holds long-standing religious significance in parts of the Indian subcontinent, its common name deriving from the Sanskrit devadaru, meaning wood of the gods, and its fragrant, durable timber has traditionally been used in temple and palace construction.
