Gymnocalycium saglionis, the giant chin cactus, is a globular species of Gymnocalycium cactus endemic to northwest Argentina, found in the provinces of Salta, Tucuman, Catamarca, San Juan, and La Rioja at elevations between 240 and 2,600 meters. Its body ranges from dull green to blue-green and can reach up to 40 centimeters in diameter and 90 centimeters tall, with yellowish-brown, reddish, or white spines 3 to 4 centimeters long that turn grey with age. It produces white or reddish flowers about 3.6 centimeters long, followed by globular reddish or dark pink fruits containing tiny black-brown seeds.
