Firewood catfish

The firewood catfish is a species of South American pimelodid catfish and the sole member of the genus Sorubimichthys. It is one of hundreds of freshwater fish in the Amazon Basin that play important ecological and economic roles; known locally along the Amazon Basin as peixe-lenha, it is so named because it has little value as food and is often dried and used for firewood. Firewood catfish are also imported outside their native range as an in-demand aquarium fish.
