Cyperus alternifolius

Cyperus alternifolius, known as umbrella papyrus, umbrella sedge, or umbrella palm, is a grass-like plant in the sedge family Cyperaceae. It is native to West Africa, Madagascar, and the Arabian Peninsula but has since become widely distributed around the world as an ornamental plant, having received the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. Its subspecies Cyperus alternifolius ssp. flabelliformis is also known under the synonym Cyperus involucratus.
