Ghost Shrimp

Thalassinidea is the former infraorder classification for decapod crustaceans that live in burrows in the muddy bottoms of the world's oceans, known by the vernacular names mud lobster and ghost shrimp. In Australian English, the littoral thalassinidean Trypaea australiensis is called the yabby and is frequently used as bait for estuarine fishing, though elsewhere these animals are poorly known and carry few common names. The burrows made by thalassinideans are frequently preserved, giving the group a fossil record reaching back to the late Jurassic.
