Asian Forest Scorpion is the common name for Heterometrus, a genus of large scorpions native to the forested, humid regions of tropical and subtropical southeastern Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Hainan in China. Members of the genus measure 100 to 200 millimeters long with dark brown or black coloring and powerful pincers, and despite their imposing size their venom is mild, with no known human fatalities, which along with their docile behavior has made them popular pet scorpions.
