Blue Spruce

Blue spruce, Picea pungens, is a conifer of the family Pinaceae native to the central Rocky Mountains of the United States, where it grows along streambanks and in moist mountain valleys typically between 1,800 and 3,000 meters elevation. Its stiff, sharply pointed needles carry a waxy bloom that gives the tree its characteristic silvery blue-gray color, a trait most pronounced in cultivated ornamental varieties, and it is the state tree of both Colorado and Utah, widely planted worldwide as a landscape and Christmas tree species.
