Coenobita rugosus

Coenobita rugosus is a species of land hermit crab native to Indonesia, Australia, and the east African coast east to the southwest Pacific, growing to about 5 centimeters long with coloring that ranges from green, brown, and tan to black, white, pink, or blue depending on diet. It has sandy colored eyestalks, light orange antennae, a large pincer marked with pronounced striations and seven ridges, four walking legs, and a short, fat abdomen, and can make a chirping sound by rubbing its large pincer against its shell when threatened. Like other land hermit crabs it scavenges plants, dead fish, fruit, and other detritus.
