Pagurus Bernhardus

Pagurus bernhardus is the common marine hermit crab of Europe's Atlantic coasts, sometimes called the common hermit crab or soldier crab. Its carapace reaches about 3.5 centimetres long, and it is found in rocky and sandy areas from the Arctic waters of Iceland, Svalbard and Russia south to Portugal and into the Mediterranean Sea, from tide pools down to about 140 metres depth. It is an omnivorous detritivore that opportunistically scavenges carrion and can also filter feed when necessary.
