Common Cord-moss, also known as bonfire moss, is a moss species that colonizes damp, disturbed ground, shady moist soil, and the crevices of walls and rock. It is especially known for appearing on bare ground after fires, a habit that gave rise to its common name bonfire moss, and the species has shown notable adaptability, having been documented growing with elongated stems and narrower leaves when established deep in an artificially lit cave with no natural light.
