Zygaena fausta is a day-flying burnet moth of the family Zygaenidae, first described by Linnaeus in 1767. It displays aposematic red, white, and black coloring, with a bright red abdomen against white legs, a black head and antennae, and a black-and-white thorax bearing an eyespot on each side. It occurs across southwestern Europe from Spain and southern Portugal to western Austria and southern Germany, and northeast to Thuringia and North-western Italy, though it is rare or absent in Britain, the Netherlands, and Belgium; adults favor dry chalk grassland and visit flowers such as knapweed and eryngo from April or May through October.
