Desert and Tundra Biomes

Biomes defined by low biological productivity from either extreme dryness or extreme cold: desert, polar desert, tundra and alpine. Grouped together as the atlas's own low-productivity biomes despite their different climates, because both share sparse vegetation and a harsh growing season as their defining constraint.
