Nothobranchius furzeri, known as the turquoise killifish, is a species of killifish in the family Nothobranchiidae. It is native to Africa, where it is known only from Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This annual killifish lives in ephemeral pools in semi-arid areas with scarce and erratic rainfall, and has adapted to the routine drying of its habitat by evolving desiccation-resistant eggs that can lie dormant in dry mud for a year or more by entering diapause.
