The three-band anemonefish (Amphiprion tricinctus) is found only in the Marshall Islands of the western Pacific, living in lagoons and on pinnacle and seaward reefs mostly between 3 and 40 meters deep. It reaches about 13 centimeters and, as its name suggests, carries three white bands over a body that is yellow orange at the snout, belly, and lower fins, shading to dark brown or black toward the tail; color varies naturally from mostly orange to mostly black, with the darkest individuals typically associating with Mertens' carpet sea anemone. Like other anemonefish it is a sequential hermaphrodite with a strict size based hierarchy, the largest fish breeding as a female and the second largest as the breeding male, and it feeds mainly on zooplankton.
