The common carp, also called the European or Eurasian carp, is a widespread freshwater fish of nutrient-rich lakes and large rivers across Europe and Asia that gives its name to the carp family, Cyprinidae. Its native wild populations are considered vulnerable to extinction by the IUCN, yet the species has also been domesticated and introduced into waters worldwide through aquaculture, where it is often considered invasive and appears on the list of the world's hundred worst invasive species.
