Silver Moss is a moss species in the family Bryaceae, identifiable without a microscope by the characteristic silvery-white sheen its shoots take on when dry, a trait reflected in its scientific name argenteum, from the Latin for silver. It is one of the most widely recognized mosses in the world and one of the most common mosses found growing in urban environments, colonizing pavement cracks, walls, and other disturbed city surfaces.
