Boise Araucaria

The Boise araucaria is a conifer in the family Araucariaceae endemic to New Caledonia, growing typically as an understory tree up to 15 meters, occasionally to 30 meters, with feathery foliage less spiky than most other Araucaria species. It grows exclusively on serpentine soil in coastal areas below 100 meters elevation and tolerates shade relatively well. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Critically Endangered, with fewer than 5,000 trees remaining and low genetic variation contributing to poor seed germination.
