Humboldt's Araucaria

Humboldt's araucaria is a conifer in the family Araucariaceae endemic to New Caledonia, growing to a modest 6 to 15 meters with a notably flattened crown. It survives in only three known populations, on Mont Humboldt, Mont Mou, and Mont des Sources in the southern part of Grande Terre, at elevations between 750 and 1,500 meters. The species is classified as Endangered; although its wild populations lie within protected park areas, an increasing frequency of forest fires has continued to degrade its habitat and kill mature trees.
