New Guinea Kauri

The New Guinea kauri is a long lived conifer in the family Araucariaceae native to both Papua New Guinea and Western New Guinea, growing across diverse habitats including peat swamp forest and mountain forest on serpentine and limestone soils. It is one of the most economically valuable timber species in the region, which has put it under sustained logging pressure. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Near Threatened.
