The helmethead gecko, Tarentola chazaliae, is a small lizard of the family Phyllodactylidae, originally described as Geckonia chazaliae by Mocquard in 1895. It measures about 7.5 centimeters from snout to vent and around 11 centimeters in total length, with a head covered in small granulations and enlarged tubercles forming a helmet-like casque at the back of the skull, flattened, spatulate digits, and dorsal coloring from light grey to dark brown, either uniform or blotched with pale or dark patches, over a light-colored underside. It lives along the northwestern coast of Africa in Mauritania, Morocco and Western Sahara, in sandy and rocky coastal desert with sparse vegetation and high humidity.
