Laurus nobilis

Laurus nobilis is an aromatic evergreen tree or large shrub in the laurel family Lauraceae, native to the Mediterranean region, with smooth green leaves and a trunk that can reach roughly a metre across on trees up to about 20 metres tall. Its leaves are the bay leaf used for seasoning in cooking, and the species is known by many common names, including bay tree, bay laurel, sweet bay and Grecian laurel; it also held a prominent place in classical Greco-Roman culture.
