Common Daisy

Flowering Plants

A perennial herb native to western, central and northern Europe, including remote islands such as the Faroes, and now naturalized across most temperate regions including the Americas and Australasia. It grows from short creeping rhizomes into rosettes of small, rounded or spoon-shaped leaves two to five centimeters long, reaching about 20 centimeters in height, with composite flower heads two to three centimeters across bearing white, often red-tipped ray florets around a yellow disc, blooming from March to September. It prefers open, field-like habitats and is a characteristic colonizer of lawns, where its resistance to mowing has earned it the common name lawn daisy.
