Fenugreek

Fenugreek, scientific name Trigonella foenum-graecum, is an annual flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, distinguished by its three small obovate to oblong leaflets. It is believed to have entered cultivation in the Near East and is now grown worldwide as a semiarid crop, with India, and particularly the state of Rajasthan, producing more than 80 percent of the world's supply. Its seeds are cuboid and yellow to amber in color. Both the leaves and seeds have been used as a culinary ingredient since ancient times and remain common in dishes from the Indian subcontinent, providing protein, dietary fiber, B vitamins, manganese and iron, though no significant clinical evidence supports therapeutic claims made for it.
