Phalaenopsis, commonly known as the moth orchids, is a genus of about seventy species of plants in the orchid family, native to Asia, New Guinea and Australia but occurring mostly in Indonesia and the Philippines. Species in the genus are monopodial epiphytes or lithophytes with long, coarse roots, short leafy stems and long-lasting, flat flowers borne on a flowering stem that often branches near its end.
