Loblolly pine, Pinus taeda, is a conifer of the family Pinaceae native to the southeastern United States, from New Jersey and Florida west to Texas, where its common name refers to the low, wet depressions it often colonizes. It is the most commercially important timber species in the southern United States, valued for its fast growth and its wood's use in construction lumber and pulp, and it is grown extensively on managed plantations covering millions of acres across the region.
