Leafhoppers are small, plant sap-feeding insects of the family Cicadellidae, one of the largest families in the order Hemiptera, found worldwide wherever plants grow. Strong jumpers capable of leaping many times their own body length, they feed by piercing plant tissue to draw out sap, and many species are agriculturally significant as vectors that spread phytoplasma and viral plant diseases from one host plant to another as they move.
