Croton eluteria, known as cascarilla, is a plant species in the genus Croton and the family Euphorbiaceae, native to the Caribbean and naturalized in tropical regions of the Americas including the Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica. It grows as a small tree or tall shrub rarely reaching 20 feet in height, with scanty, alternate, ovate lanceolate leaves about 2 inches long that show a metallic silver bronze color beneath. It produces small, very fragrant white flowers in March and April, and its bark is fissured and pale yellowish brown, sometimes covered in lichen. The IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
