Common pocket-moss, Fissidens taxifolius, is a species of moss in the family Fissidentaceae, first described by Johann Hedwig in 1801, that grows in dense yellowish-green to dark green tufts on damp soil and shaded banks. Its leaves are arranged in two flattened, opposite rows that give the plant a delicate, fern-like appearance, each leaf tipped with a projecting central nerve, and it can form extensive turfs where conditions are favorable.
