Hoop pine, Araucaria cunninghamii, is a conifer of the family Araucariaceae native to eastern Australia and New Guinea, recognizable by the distinctive horizontal ring-like bands, or hoops, formed as bark peels away from the trunk. It is an important timber species in Queensland and New South Wales, grown in plantations for its fine, even-grained wood used in furniture, veneer and construction.
