Mediterranean Slipper Lobster

The Mediterranean slipper lobster, Scyllarides latus, is a species of slipper lobster found in the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic Ocean. It is edible and highly regarded as food, but has become rare over much of its range due to overfishing. Adults may grow to about a foot long, are camouflaged, and lack claws entirely, unlike true lobsters. They are nocturnal, emerging from caves and other shelters at night to feed on mollusks, and are themselves preyed on by a variety of bony fish.
