Atlantic Sailfish

Fish

The Atlantic sailfish is a species of marine fish related to the marlin, found in the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, except for large areas of the central North and South Atlantic, from the surface to depths of 200 metres. Tests in the 1920s estimated it capable of short sprints up to 111 kilometres per hour, though more conservative estimates of 37 to 55 kilometres per hour are now more widely accepted, and more recent studies suggest it may not exceed 36 kilometres per hour. It hunts schooling fish such as sardines, anchovies and mackerel, and also feeds on crustaceans and cephalopods.
