The giant tiger prawn is one of the largest and most widely farmed prawn species in the world, native to the Indo-Pacific region from East Africa to Southeast Asia and northern Australia. It is easily recognized by the alternating black and white or orange bands across its body and tail, which give it its common name, and it is a major species in global aquaculture, particularly in Southeast Asia, prized for its large size and fast growth, though wild populations also support significant fisheries.
